Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born in Barranquilla (Colombia), on February 2, 1977, to a Colombian mother and an american born father of Lebanese descent. Shakira, means "grateful" in Arabic, is named after her grandmother. She was one of seven siblings, one of whom is her road manager.

Shakira knew early on that she wanted to be a professional musician and by the time she was 8, she was already writing her own songs. This undeniable prodigy even began playing the guitar by 11 years of age.

Between the ages of ten to thirteen, Shakira was invited to various events in Barranquilla, and gained some recognition in the area. It was around this time that she met local theater producer Monica Ariza, who was impressed with Shakira and as a result attempted to help her career. During a flight from Barranquilla to Bogot�, Ariza convinced Sony Colombia executive Ciro Vargas to hold an audition for Shakira in a motel lobby. Vargas held Shakira in good regards and returned to the Sony office and gave the cassette to a song and artist director. However, the director was not overly excited and thought Shakira was somewhat of "a lost cause". Vargas, not daunted, was still convinced that Shakira had talent, and set up an audition in Bogot�. He arranged for Sony Colombia executives to arrive at the audition, with the idea of surprising them with Shakira's performance. She performed three songs for the executives and impressed them enough for her to be subsequently signed to record three albums.

Magia (Magic) was Shakira's debut album, recorded with Sony Colombia in 1991, when she was 15. The album did not fare well commercially, selling less than one thousand copies. After Magia, Shakira released Peligro (Danger) in 1993. The album was better received than Magia, but Shakira decided to take a hiatus from recording so that she could graduate from high school.

Shakira returned to recording in 1995, supported by a new confessional and Alanis Morissette-oriented persona that affected some of her next albums, and made her third studio one, Pies Descalzos (Bare Feet), bring her great fame in Latin America. The singles "Estoy Aqu�" (I'm Here), "Pies Descalzos, Sue�os Blancos" (Bare Feet, White Dreams), and "D�nde Est�s Coraz�n?" (Where Are You, My Heart?) became pop culture icons. Pies Descalzos sold more than 4 million copies, which prompted the release of a remix album, titled simply The Remixes, which sold more than a million copies. The Remixes also included Portuguese versions of some of her best-known songs, which were recorded because of her success in the Brazilian market.

Her fourth album, �D�nde Est�n Los Ladrones? (Where Are The Thieves?), was released in 1998. It was produced by Emilio Estefan, reportedly cost US$3 million, and had more of a polished sound than Pies Descalzos. It was even more successful and sold almost 7 million. She began to gain more fans in non-Spanish-speaking countries like France, Switzerland, Canada, and especially the United States. Eight of the album's eleven tracks became singles, including "Ciega, Sordomuda"(Blind, Deaf, and Mute), "Moscas En La Casa" (Flies in the House), "No Creo" (I Don't Believe), "Inevitable", "T�" (You), "Si Te Vas" (If You Leave), "Octavo D�a" (Eighth Day), and the world-famous "Ojos As�"(Eyes Like Yours). Shakira's first live album, MTV Unplugged, was composed of "Estoy Aqu�" and the songs from �D�nde Est�n Los Ladrones?.

In March 2000 Shakira embarked on her Tour Anfibio, a three-month tour of Latin America and the United States. In August of 2000 she won an MTV Video Music Award in the now-defunct category of People's Choice - Favorite International Artist.

In 2001, upon the success of �D�nde Est�n Los Ladrones?, Shakira began working on a crossover album to the English language. Collaborating with Gloria Estefan, Shakira wrote and recorded English versions of the tracks from �D�nde Est�n Los Ladrones?. However, Shakira later decided against using translations of older songs for the album and worked for over a year on new material for the album. The result was Laundry Service. Although it was created for the intent of selling to an English language market, the rock and Spanish dance-influenced album also featured four Spanish songs, including "Que Me Quedes T�" (I Hope You Stay With Me). Some critics claimed that Shakira's English skills were too weak for her to write in it, but Laundry Service was a success, with more than 13 million sales worldwide, yielding the worldwide hit "Whenever, Wherever" and singles "Underneath Your Clothes" (a Canadian number-one), "Te Dejo Madrid" (I Leave You Madrid), "Objection (Tango)", and "The One". The album and its singles helped to establish Shakira's musical presence in the mainstream North American market.

In 2002, Shakira also released her Spanish greatest hits volume Grandes �xitos. A DVD and ten-track compilation album called Live & Off the Record, was also released in 2004 reaching sales of 3 million CDs worldwide, commemorating Shakira's 2002-2003 world tour, the Tour Of The Mongoose.

In September 2002, Shakira won the now-defunct International Viewer's Choice Award at the MTV Video Music Awards with "Suerte". In October of that year, she won 5 MTV Video Music Awards Latin America for Best Female Artist, Best Pop Artist, Best Artist�North (Region), Video of the Year (for Suerte), and Artist of the Year. At Aerosmith's MTV Icon in 2002, Shakira performed "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)". Also in 2002, Shakira joined the likes of Celine Dion, Anastacia, Cher and The Dixie Chicks for VH1 Divas Live Las Vegas.

Shakira stayed out of the spotlight for 2 and a half years, noticely changing her hair style. She later announced Oral Fixation 1 and 2 due in 2005.Fijaci�n Oral Vol. 1 was released on June 6, 2005 in Europe and on June 7, 2005 in North America and Australia. The lead single "La Tortura" (English: The Torture, featuring Alejandro Sanz) eventually reached number one in Spain and number twenty-three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. In Canada, "La Tortura" also became the highest-charting Spanish song when it debuted and peaked at number twenty-one. Its success across the rest of the world was widespread and it managed to peak within the top ten of the majority of the charts it entered. In the U.S., "La Tortura" spent a record twenty-five weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart.

Fijaci�n Oral Vol. 1 was simultaneously released in Latin America. It debuted at number one in Spain and at number four on the U.S. Billboard 200. It was also well-received in non-Spanish speaking countries such as Italy, Greece and Germany, where it reached number one, Austria, where it reached number three, and Canada and Hungary, where it reached number seven. The second single from Fijaci�n Oral Vol. 1, "No" (English: No), was released in September 2005, and peaked at number one in Spain and Colombia, for fourteen non-consecutive weeks. So far, Fijaci�n Oral Vol. 1 has sold five million copies worldwide. Her third single from "Fijaci�n Oral vol. 1", D�a de Enero, is dedicated to her fiance, Antonio de la R�a. This single was number one in some countries in Latin America, but it hadn't got success like "La Tortura" and "No". She also performed "La Tortura" at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards in Miami with Alejandro Sanz. It was the first ever Spanish performance at the VMA's. (There was also a reggaeton medley during the show, including Daddy Yankee's Gasolina, but it came after Shakira's performance.)

Before the release of Shakira's second English album Oral Fixation Vol. 2, she appeared at the 2005 MTV Europe Music Awards in Lisbon, Portugal and she was nominated in the category of "Best Female", which she won to great shock since she had outmatched the international popularity of other artists such as Gwen Stefani. Shakira performed Oral Fixation Vol. 2's lead single "Don't Bother" with a car on stage following her win. Shakira's second English album Oral Fixation Vol. 2 was released on November 29, 2005 in North America and Australia, and also at this time in Continental Europe. While "Don't Bother" was warmly received by music critics as the album's lead single, it failed to peak within the U.S. top forty. The second single "Hips Don't Lie" (featuring Wyclef Jean) became her first single to reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. On March 28, 2006, she re-released Oral Fixation Vol. 2 in the U.S. and released it June 19, 2006.

On April 3, 2006, Shakira was honored at an United Nations ceremony because she created the Pies Descalzos Foundation, a charity that helps to protect children from violence in Colombia. At the event she said: "Let's not forget that at the end of this day when we all go home, 960 children will have died in Latin America [1]."

On April 27, 2006 she received 6 Latin Billboard Awards. The awards included Female Latin Pop Album of the Year for Fijacion Oral Vol. 1 and Hot Latin Song of the Year for La Tortura. She was also honored with the Spirit of Hope Award for her foundation Pies Descalzos.

In June, Shakira started her biggest tour ever, called the Oral Fixation Tour, which will last until the summer of 2007.

On July 30th 2006 Hips Don't Lie was her most recent number one, and consequently, the last ever song played on the legendary British programme Top of the Pops, seeing the track jump back from number three to the number one spot again, after spending seven weeks on the chart.

Shakira was the most nominated artist of the year for this year's MTV Video Music Awards '06. Her seven nominations were for "Hips Don't Lie", including Video of the Year and Best Female Video. [2] She won only one award for Choreography. Shakira also performed "Hips Don't Lie" to the dance moves of popular Indian Choreographer Farah Khan. The award show was held on August 31st 2006 in Radio City Music Hall.

This year, Shakira and Alejandro Sanz have been working together again, this time the duet is called "Te lo Agradezco pero No" and it's featured on Alejandro Sanz' new album. Also, Shakira has announced her two new singles, "Illegal" featuring Carlos Santana and "La Pared".

Michael Jackson's personal physician was identified as a suspect in the Los Angeles Police Department's manslaughter investigation into the pop star's death, according to court records filed Thursday in Houston.

A pair of search warrants filed in Harris County District Court stated that investigators were looking for "items constituting evidence of the offense of manslaughter that tend to show that Dr. Conrad Murray committed the said criminal offense."

Police look for evidence of manslaughter in Jackson's death, attorney says

The searches, which were carried out Wednesday at Murray's medical clinic and storage unit in Houston, gave authorities access to billing records, medication orders, shipping receipts, billing receipts, medical records and "implements and instruments used in the commission of a crime."

The court records were the first public confirmation by police that Murray was a focus of their probe. Detectives previously had interviewed Murray, but had declined to identify him as a suspect.

"I do not know what they are looking for, and I can't possibly tell you how anything they took in any way connects with the death of Michael Jackson," said Murray's attorney, Edward Chernoff, who was present at both of the searches.

Chernoff has said that his client did not give Jackson any narcotics or other medication that "should have" caused his death.

Acting on behalf of the LAPD, a member of the Houston Police Department's narcotics division obtained the search warrant for Murray's Houston office on Monday from a Harris County District Court judge.

They searched the office for 3 1/2 hours Wednesday, confiscating a computer, a Rolodex card with FedEx information and e-mails from one of Murray's former employees.

The inventory of items taken in the search included vials of two drugs: 27 tablets of phentermine, a prescription appetite suppressant; and one tablet of clonazepam, a muscle relaxant. During that search, authorities also seized public storage receipts, a rental agreement and a move-in receipt.

Sue Lyon, general manager of West 18th Street Self Storage, where Murray has rented a 10-by-15-foot storage unit since April, said authorities found information about her company at Murray's office, then sought the second search warrant.

"They found my business card," Lyon said. "That's how they put it together. They came straight over here."

Among the items seized from the storage unit were two computer hard drives, a medical board certificate, letters to a former employee, a list of contacts and papers pertaining to his practice. On the search warrant return and inventory, authorities listed a suspension notice from a Houston hospital. They also took letters from the Internal Revenue Service, a Texas Department of Public Safety controlled substance registration and public records from the Texas controller.

An administrative assistant at Doctors Hospital in Houston confirmed that Murray has been suspended from practicing at the hospital. The offense was "very much" routine and minor, she said.

Murray, a cardiologist with practices in Las Vegas and Houston, had been hired to care for Jackson at a monthly salary of $150,000. Murray was at Jackson's home and found the singer not breathing June 25. He administered CPR before paramedics were called. The singer was officially pronounced dead at UCLA Medical Center.

Sources familiar with the investigation have said that authorities removed propofol, a powerful anesthetic, and other medications from Jackson's home. Murray's attorney has declined to comment on whether the doctor administered the drug, which is most commonly used by anesthesiologists in hospitals.

L.A. County coroner's investigators have collected evidence from two other medical professionals who worked with Jackson before his death.

Earlier this week, Ed Winter, assistant chief coroner, obtained information from Dr. Randy Rosen, an anesthesiologist. Winter told The Times that Jackson had been treated at Rosen's Beverly Hills office but declined to say under what circumstances. Jackson's second child was delivered at the facility, according to birth records. Rosen's office did not return calls seeking comment .

On Wednesday, Winter visited the Inglewood office of Cherilyn Lee, a registered nurse who operates a Los Angeles-based nutritional counseling business. Lee said Jackson had complained to her earlier this year of insomnia and pleaded for her to get him propofol. Lee told The Times she never prescribed or gave Jackson drugs, but did design a nutritional program for him, which she provided to Winter. She said she warned Jackson against using propofol.

Bollywood is providing a mix of two separate genres of movies this Friday. Incidentally, the two might attract different class of the audience. Anyway, both are trying their luck at the box office while one of them is titled 'Luck'. The other one is 'Perfect Mismatch'. It seems that the television reality shows are entering into the big screen. The specialty of 'Luck' is that it doesn't focus on hero only but moves around several characters. The movie's director Soham Shah of the 'Kaal' fame first decided to cast Shruti, daughter of super star Kamal Hasan. She is starting her career with this movie opposite Imran Khan.

Thereafter he signed on Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakravorty and Danny. Though Shah had completed the script long ago but it took him a lot of time for Dhillon Mehta to finance it. Interestingly, the director along with his trusted cameraman Santosh Dhandiyal finalized the shooting locations in South Africa and Bangkok. He chose the same South African city where Akshay Kumar had played host to daredevil girls! The director completed the movie in 70 days, it is said. He claims that his actors have played their roles without the help of doubles. In fact, even Shruti has dared play her bold and risky stunts herself though after learning the art in Bangkok. 'Perfect Mismatch' belongs to a different class with its star performers like Boman Irani and Anupam Kher known for their specialty along with pretty Nandana Sen.

The movie begins with Mafia king pin Kareem Musa played by Sanjay Dutt challenging an eclectic group to perform stunts for his betting trade. His game involves humans as betting objects who are made to fight their own luck to survive! Every year his trusted aide Tamang played by Danny collects 20 participants for him. They are handpicked from across the globe who have proved lucky. Ram Mehra played by Imran Khan is a white collar youth who is determined to make good Rs 200 million that his father lost in the stock market. Ayesha played by Shruti Hasan has her own agenda.

Mithun Chakravarthy playing Retired Major Jawar Pratap Singh needs money for his sick wife. Here, the script takes a turn. As the luck or rather the bad luck would have it. Shortcut played by Chitrashi Rawat is a Pakistani camel racer girl who dreams of buying a Lexus with the prize money while Raghav played by Ravi Kissen is a serial murderer. The participants are put into extremely dangerous life risking games of luck. The one who manages to win the big jackpot forms the rest of movie. Incidentally, junior artists get knocked-off first and later Imran Khan, the hero, too. As told above, only the lucky one survives. Here, the lucky survivor is none other than villain Ravi playing Raghav.

The movie begins on an exciting sequence when a blindfolded Sanjay Dutt crosses the multiple railway lines with trains running at a high speed. The credit for playing the action scene goes to Dutt and for technical excellence to director Shah. This shows that the movie is a good mix of both a thriller as well as an entertainer. Then, the director introduces the vital element of a Bollywood movie -- romance. Yes, between the hero Imran and the beautiful newcomer Shruti Hassan. While critically analyzing the movie, we come across several flaws. First, Sanjay Dutt is seen gun trotting, not once but frequently and that too in a royal desi dress sherwani (long coat usually worn at the wedding or by princes in their official assignments).

No matter, the director rightly names him Musa who is always surrounded by black-suited bodyguards! Two, the script isn't as tight as required. The director seems to have written in a great hurry, leaving a lot of scope o tie the loose ends. Third, the first half is assigned only to the introduction of the characters and that too in vain but in vain. They are established only in the latter-half. Lastly, the emotional connect with the viewer is missing. This is another matter that Allan Amin has brilliantly choreographed both the initial as well as the concluding sequences. However, he too fails in making the initial scenes enacting stunts look real.

Acting-wise, Imran Khan performs excellently well. However, he needs to improve his expression. Shruti Hassan has tried her best as newcomer but needs time to mirror her character. She is stunningly charming but lacks in dialogue delivery. Danny needs no comment; he is the most experienced in the cast. We wish the director had utilized him a bit more. Mithun is good too. Ravi Kishen has performed very well. Chitrashi Rawat and Snita Mahey as Dutt's team member play very well. Their roles leave little scope for them to prove their worth. Yes, Sanjay Dutt looks charming but the director hasn't dealt well with his dress and frequent gun trotting. He plays stunts too but not as well as our khiladi Akshay Kumar. The director needs a pat to cast the trio of Dutt, Mithun and Danny together for any film after 20 years.

On the whole, 'Luck' looks like trying its luck at the theaters exhibiting it. However, we couldn't let it go without our comment that the director looks like banking on his luck rather than fully devoting himself to his job during the making of the movie. Had he done so, the movie would have hit the box office on its own. Still, a paisa vassol movie.

New Delhi: In what could become a trend for low-budget films, UTV Motion Pictures Plc.’s Phir Kabhi will be exclusively released on the direct-to-home (DTH) platform next month.

UTV and DTH operators see the film as an experiment in the right direction for both producers of small-budget films and the platform itself. “For smaller movies, investments in theatrical publicity and distribution costs many times do not justify the revenues they bring in, so for such small-budget, niche films, we are exploring DTH as a platform on an experiment basis,” said Amrita Pandey, vice-president, international distribution and syndication, UTV Motion Pictures.

Phir Kabhi has been produced at a cost of Rs3 crore. Producers typically spend 30-40% more on promotional expenditure when the movie is being released in cinemas.

UTV, which will release Phir Kabhi on the platforms of most DTH companies including Tata Sky Ltd, the Essel Group-owned Dish TV, Reliance Communications Ltd’s BIG TV and Bharti Airtel Ltd’s Digital TV, said it would assess the film’s success before producing any more movies exclusively for release on the DTH platform.

The movie will be released on a pay-per-view basis, and while the price is yet to be finalized, Pandey said it could be around Rs50-75.

She refused to reveal details of the agreement between UTV and DTH operators on the financial aspects of the deal.

“With a growing base of 13 million homes in India and a fully measurable technology platform, DTH provides a viable digital distribution platform to movie producers,” said Sanjay Behl, chief executive officer of Reliance BIG TV.

A pay-per-view, or video on demand, service is made available only to viewers who ask for it and pay for the content independently. An on-demand movie on DTH platforms costs between Rs25 and Rs100.

Viewers could also find the pay-per-view option less expensive compared with cinema tickets, said Pandey. “A consumer might not want to spend Rs200 to watch a small-budget film in a cinema hall but might be attracted to the sub-Rs100 price point to watch the movie sitting in his house.”

DTH operators are optimistic about such a trend catching on and are hoping pay-per-view emerges as a separate revenue stream. Currently, the pay-per-view business contributes an insignificant amount to their revenues. “It is still early days for the DTH industry, therefore, this is not a major revenue stream,” said Jehil Thakkar, head of media and entertainment practice at consulting firm KPMG.

DTH operators say the pay-per-view route could also help small producers fight piracy. “This new business model will not only help producers in cutting costs and reach over 10 million homes, but also help in curbing piracy,“ said Vikram Mehra, chief marketing officer, Tata Sky. “For any movie to reach smaller towns it takes a minimum of three-four days by when pirated CDs are already available there. A simultaneous (DTH) release will restrict such an activity.”

Mehta said Tata Sky is already in talks with some producers for their future projects but declined to provide details.

DTH firms have been experimenting with the pay-per-view model for some time. Earlier this year, Tata Sky offered its customers an option of viewing Slumdog Millionaire for Rs25 a pop. The offer lasted for three days before the Academy Awards and some 150,000 viewers took it up.

A report by KPMG and industry lobby Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry predicts that the number of DTH subscribers in India will go up to 28 million in the next four years from around 13 million in March.

As per the latest news reports, actress Kavya Madhavan has decided to seek divorce, it is a matter of time not, she already started the divorce procedure at the the family court in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

On 5th February 2009 Kavya Madhavan and got married with Nishal Chandra at Kollur Mookambika. They also arranged a grand reception for their friends from the film fraternity at Le Meridien in Ernakulam.

“I think that Naseer is a much better actor than a director, because he has not explored that side of his as a director.

It is sad that though I have worked with him as a co-actor, in films like Katha, Mirch Masala, Mane, Junoon, Apna Jahaaan and Firaque, I did not get the opportunity to work under his direction when he made his debut as a film director. It is only when you get to see his body of work as an actor that you can evaluate his growth as an actor.”

“I worship him as an actor. To observe him was actually my first acting lesson on the sets of Junoon, when I knew nothing of acting, not even the A, B, C, though I was confident as a youngster of acting.

It was after watching him constantly that I learnt what it is to prepare for a role, though at that point of time I had my own method of acting.

The best part of Naseer is that he makes himself feel the part that he is setting out to play and the amount of work that he puts into his performance is not the kind of teek hai is mein kya hain, hum kar lenge kind.”

“Luckily, when I was working on the sets of Junoon, I had the great opportunity to observe actors like Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Jennifer Kendel, Kulbushan Kharbanda, etc, but frankly I was enamoured by the way Naseer approached his work as an actor.

Katha and Mane were two films in which I was lucky enough to have had full-fledged wholesome roles. Especially mine, as well as Naseer’s roles in Katha were written superbly with small nuances by Sai Patranjpye who had directed the film.”

“I do not like the fact that he gets angry on the sets. I still remember Naseer cursing away to glory on the sets of Mirch Masala.

Though Naseer is one actor who allows himself the luxury of getting angry, he is a very interesting co-actor who never distracts you, and is professional to the core as an actor.

Without making it look like he is guiding you or teaching you, Naseer will lead his co-actors to an area which is very exciting for him or her to explore. It is a very great quality in any actor, especially since most of the actors only try to distract you from doing your best when you are pitched with them.

“Do not be afraid to do your best’ is the message that I have often got from him, without him actually making it obvious or even telling you that. His mere presence on the sets is very reassuring for his co-actors, even if he does not hesitate to call a spade a spade.”

“Naseer also has a sweet sense of humour and the ability to charm you quietly. Paar, Mirch Masala, Sparsh, Manthan, Katha, Firaque, Monsoon Wedding and A Wednesday are films of his which come to my mind when I think of his sterling performances.

From Singapore to Chalakudy …. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan never had such a hectic schedule to keep up. On Monday another schedule of Mani Ratnam’s Raavan started in the distant hilly area of Kerala, just when Amar Singh whom Aishwarya was attending to, had recovered.

Illnesses in the family and at her work place have put Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s choc-a-bloc schedule under further pressure.

First it was her father and father-in-law who underwent health problems. Now it’s the Bachchans’ family friend Amar Singh whose kidney transplant in Singapore has further challenged Aishwarya’s schedules.

In fact scheduling setbacks caused by unforeseen health problems seem to be hounding Aishwarya. Two of her films both starring her husband Abhishek have fallen back due to illnesses.

Mani Ratnam’s Raavan has been pushed behind because of the director’s heart scare. Consequently a major chunk of Aishwarya’s dates went to waste, though it did give her chance to go on a holiday for her marriage anniversary in April…a holiday she could ‘ill’ afford.

Then the proposed thriller Crooked which takes her across the world for shooting with her husband, got postponed from mid-2009 to the end of the year as the director Abhinay Deo’s wife fell ill.Aishwarya willingly reshuffled the dates.

Says a close friend, “She can never be ruthlessly professional. If a project is in distress she will accommodate and reschedule it, no matter what it takes. There’re three delayed projects, none delayed because of Aishwarya.

But nonetheless requiring her immediate attention. She has already made space for the next schedules of Raavan and Shankar’s Tamil Robot with Rajnikanth which has also over-shot considerably and requires her additional dates.”

Aishwarya’s scheduling woes don’t end there. Raavan is a bi-lingual in Tamil and Hindi which means it takes double her time.

Says the friend, “Abhishek is in only one version of Raavan. Aishwarya is in both Tamil and Hindi. And she’s also speaking her own Tamil lines.”

Hence when the matter of the entire Bachchan family going for Amar Singh’s surgery came up, it was gently suggested that Aishwarya minimize or cancel her participation.

Says the source, “But for Aishwarya a family commitment is paramount. Work can wait. This is professionally her most crowded and difficult period ever. But she is determined to finish all her projects on time.”

“At least no one should blame me if any of my films are delayed, ”Aishwarya laughed before leaving for Singapore. She now travels from Singapore to Chalakudy in Kerala for the next schedule of Mani’s Raavan with no space to meet her loved ones in Mumbai.

He has expressed the desire to go back to the jungle in an interview and also shared his experience on the show. He is soon to out the video of the rap song he composed during his stay in jungle.

Are you upset with such an early ouster?
It was not long enough. I want to do some more things. I didn’t even get to eat cockroaches. I would love to go back in the wild card entry.

Are you missing your new friend Mona?
Yes very much. Mona is female version of me so we got along really well in the jungle. I taught her to rap but I was out before she could teach me acting.

Do you think this would not have been the result had the voting lines been open till your snake task?
Of course people would have voted seeing my snake task. I am very quiet and don’t get into controversies to get attention so I can be only noticed for my task performance.

How was the experience of resting in coffin with snakes?
It was crazy. When they opened water in coffin I had no idea what they have let in along. I expected eels but it was snake crawling on me, it was very creepy. For the first three minutes I was anxious but then I decided to stay in the coffin, come what may, I will earn all the stars so as to feed my fellow campers.

Initially it was scary, my belly was full, I was about to vomit but after completing the task when I looked back in the coffin I felt great to have shared the coffin with those beautiful crawling snakes, in fact, I was overwhelmed after completing the task.

Did rapping in coffin help you to overcome fear?
It is my task mantra Chal be Shane task kar…I composed the song in four days when I was in jungle. After coming out I have also shot the video with the title ‘Chal Be Shaane’. It is all about my jungle experience. I have not used anything of the show except the experience. I have a great team working on it and tomorrow it will be on You tube.

What went wrong in the last task?
I slipped while going to the task area and my hand was injured. Above that I had to fight the task against my old friend Anaida. All this was not allowing me to focus. She performed brilliantly and she deserves to be on the show.

As tasks will get tougher and tougher, they had reptiles in the early task so what do you think the tasks would be like in coming episodes?
I think they will have to eat worms and insects. They will have to sit in coffin with more creepy animals. I am ready to do all that and I am looking forward to wildcard entry. It will be life changing experience in jungle as we live the life of cave men where we fetch water and washed clothes. It is kind of beginning of a new civilization.

What do you have to say about non-artiste contenders Palak and Fiza?
wo log show pe footage kha rahe hai. All of us have a reason to be on the show as we all are associated with showbiz in some or the other way. I don’t see any reason for Palak and Fiza to be on the show.

Palak is immature and wants to be famous by any means. If you don’t have talent you tend to adopt such means. Fiza is not at all co-operative. Abhi who sabki band bajane waali hai, as she is elected as leader this time.

Who do you want to win the show?
I want Mona, Akash or me if I am thrown back in the jungle to win the show.

I can just laugh when he says that he can cure homosexuals by Pranayam and meditation. With all due respect to Baba Ramdev, he 'may' have the so called 'cure' for homosexuality but the point is LGBT community 'does not' see their homosexuality as a disease.

The point is no one is interested in buying this 'over the counter' prescription for curing what is not a disease at all. This is what they are and they are comfortable with their self. They are not interfering in anyone's life or religion but unfortunately everyone wants to interfere in their lives and tell them how they should eat, sleep and have sex. It is plain and simple ridiculous!

He has created a clout for him though over a period of time...
But because of that, he cannot become 'Samaaj Ka Thekedaar', right? Yes, I give him credit for contributing to realization and revival of yoga in today's time and date. But this is it.

These people prefer to live in a cocooned thought process of their own and do not wish to come out of it. Ok, good for him, it's his fundamental right to speak his mind. We, the youth, too are using our fundamental rights the way we wish to do, so I guess we are even.

So what is it that you wish to tell Baba Ramdev?

All I can say is that the respectable judges of Supreme Court will definitely consider the human rights aspect and the fight against the growing HIV AIDS epidemic in India.

I am confident that 'jiska koi nahi hota hai uska khuda hota hai'. Society needs to focus on one issue and it is that for any step towards progression, change needs to come from within.

If everyone just takes the responsibility for improving themselves from within by becoming more tolerant, becoming giving, becoming kind and being honest, everyone would be happier and contended. That would lead to a happy and peaceful community.

And your message for the 'aam junta'?
Take your own responsibility first that's it. As for these Babas, they are doing whatever their remote upbringing and closed mindset is dictating them to do.

Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds, who is married to actress Scarlett Johansson, says he enjoyed filming a nude scene with Sandra Bullock for "The Proposal" because she has a great body.

The 32-year-old initially worried that Sandra, 44, would back out of the scene because of nerves.

She is one of Bollywood's leading actresses and turns 27 Saturday. But Priyanka Chopra says she is not a party animal and would like to just have a quiet birthday with her near and dear ones.

"I'm not a big party person and I don't like throwing parties at all. So this time a lot of my family members have decided to fly down to be with me, " Priyanka told over e-mail from Mumbai.

"It's likely to be a day spent doing nothing in particular - just hanging out with the people who love me and want to be around me to make my day special. That's all, " she added.

Priyanka has had a fulfilling year with two hits "Fashion" and "Dostana", which fetched her lots of awards.

She is entering a new year in her life, but hasn't set any goals for herself.

"I've never set any goals for myself. I've always been destiny's child and destiny has always looked after me. I think someone up there always manages my life and does what's best for me. So I just leave it up to Him. I just work hard at what he sends my way, " she said.

Currently, Priyanka is busy shooting for Yash Raj Films' "Pyaar Impossible" along with Uday Chopra and Dino Morea.

The actress is also looking forward to the release of Vishal Bharadwaj's "Kaminey" with Shahid Kapoor and Ashutosh Gowariker's "What's Your Rashee?" in which she plays 12 different roles.

The night before she flew to London, Katrina Kaif wore her dancing shoes and left for Aditya Chopra’s party

The filmmaker was celebrating the success of his last release. However, Katrina said this was one of those few nights in Mumbai when she was out. “Normally I’m all dressed up and have nowhere to go,’’ she joked.

The actress was in an introspective mood. Her day was packed — a jewellery line press conference, meeting with a film corporation honcho for their next flick, some press and television interviews, a dozen other things to do before she flew off for her month-long vacation.

Thinking aloud, she said, “God, there are so many people from the industry in London at this very moment. There is Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri, Karan Johar , Akshay Kumar , Deepika Padukone and a whole load of others. You can’t rule out the chance of bumping into someone or the other.’’

Returning home to London always brings a smile to her face. “London is my home, I’m longing to let my hair down and spend quality time with the family,’’ sighed the actress who will ring in her birthday today with her six sisters. “It’s been a while since I have taken such a long time off,’’ she added. “Whatever all of them wish to do is what I will comply with. I haven’t made any specific plans.’’

The celebrations will be followed by a short vacation in Spain and after that Kat intends to fly with her sister Isabel to New York. “While Isabel will rejoin school, I will spend some time on my own,’’ she said. Contrary to public perception that an actor’s life is one big party, Katrina, whose deep dark eyes speak a thousand words, said, “Living in Mumbai on my own does get a little lonely on many occasions. Washington, July 15 (ANI): Late King of Pop Michael Jackson had reportedly become addicted to painkillers after his doctors used acid treatments to burn and whiten his skin, leaving him in a lot of pain.

According to a former nurse, Jackson underwent countless laser facial peels and bleaching treatments, as he was obsessed with peeling back layers of skin.

But the processes were so painful he took a cocktail of drugs, including tranquilliser Diprivan to numb his senses, and allegedly begged doctors to sedate him for three days at a time.

Kathryn Buschelle, the long-term partner of one of Jackson’s plastic surgeons, even claims that the star once cheated death when he struggled to come round from a drug-induced sleep.

“Michael’s obsession with his appearance led to more and more skin treatments, and his subsequent addiction to Diprivan led to even more. It was an insane cycle,” Contactmusic quoted her as having told the Sun.

“He was literally burning his skin off and then being knocked out like a zombie. It reads like a horror movie script. Towards the end of the 90s he was a dead man walking, that’s how zoned out he was,” she added.

Buschelle revealed that Jackson’s fixation with surgery grew after he received a skin graft following damage to his nose.

“There were many more grafts, during which Michael could see that he could achieve a lighter skin tone through peeling layers and layers of skin along with lightening agents,” she said.

“Michael, I was told, spotted the white skin beneath, which excited him. It prompted him to progress on to bleaching, acid facial peeling, and then on to laser treatments,” she added. (ANI)

Being a Harry Nut, I've been reading and watching all the coverage of "Half-Blood Prince," and am pleased to bring you some fun bits where the HBP cast talk about Rob Pattinson and "Twilight."

Emma Watson tells theInsider.com that Rob "is a super nice guy...I'm really happy for him that he's gone on to be so über successful." Of his fame, she notes, "I hope he's doing okay. It's gotta be tough."
Tom Felton, who has been rumored to be in consideration to play "Riley" in "Eclipse," revealed to J-14 that if it came to a showdown between Edward Cullen and Draco Malfoy, Draco wouldn't fare too well: "I think Edward's got me there, man! Draco's a wimp, man! He's got no chance against that guy!" But Tom, Draco can Stupefy Edward! And just think what a Slug-Vomiting Jinx would do to a vegetarian vampire. It's a fun interview--find out if Tom really can eat 90 McNuggets.

Daniel Radcliffe tells USmagazine.com that "Rob Pattinson is a sex symbol. Rob Pattinson is a genuine sexy guy. He's got the height." He adds, "If girls like short and nerdy, then I'm a sex symbol!" Although Rob may have a bit of competition in the six-pack department--check out these photos of a very un-Harry-ish Dan in the stage production of "Equus" and of Rob in "New Moon." Holy hip flexors, Batman, what's in that English water?!

At the June 29 London premiere of "Public Enemies," Jamie Campbell Bower talks about his "New Moon" co-stars Rob Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Michael Sheen, as well as his role as Grindelwald in "Deathly Hallows." He jokingly refers to himself as a "franchise whore," but I beg to differ--Jamie, you are just one very lucky and talented dude!

Here's a bit from a panel interview with the HBP cast, where Dan and Tom Felton talk about "Twilight" and Rob. Dan's thoughts on the two franchises is interesting: "It's the only other franchise, really, which comes close to 'Potter,' in terms of the mania that surrounds it, the attention that the leads get, and just how global it is." Dan, Tom, and producer David Heyman--who have yet to see "Twilight"--may have to head over to Dan's for a viewing.

The Wall Street Journal has a lengthy piece which examines the "rivalry" between the "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" franchises. I don't really agree that many teens have completely left the world of HP for "Twilight"--I think most are big fans of both. The stories are rather different, so the comparisons between the two series don't always make sense. "Twilight" is definitely more of a romance made complex by the dangers presented, whereas "Harry Potter" has more complicated themes concerning good vs. evil, friendship and loyalty, choices in life, and sacrifice.

Preity Zinta Yuvraj Singh

Being a celebrity is not as rosy as you look from the outset. You have to pay a huge prize for name and fame. Bollywood actress Preity Zinta is one of the victims. She has been in the news for all the wrong reasons ever since crack appeared on her long-time relationship
with Ness Wadia. Now, she has been linked with her captain Yuvraj Singh.

It looks like the hugs after every match did the trick. Yuvraj used to be the first person to receive warm hugs from Preity, every time Kings XI Punjab won a match in the last leg of the Indian Premiere League (IPL). Yuvraj deserved them first being the captain of the team but their chemistry off the field has caught the eyes of the rumourmongers. It may be recalled that Preity and Ness, who co-own the Kings XI, never appeared together in the last IPL.

Adding more fuel to the fire, Yuvraj has bought a rooftop apartment in Mumbai, which is just a hug away from Preity Zinta's home. They are said to have grown closer after Preity announced her split with her long-time boyfriend Ness Wadia. Yuvraj too has experienced his share of heartbreaks with his relationships not working out the way he wanted. He was earlier linked to Kim Sharma and Deepika Padukone.

Preity and Yuvraj look good together. As both of them are single now, nobody can stop them from mingling. Give them space!
